[06] The Perfect Game - John Hansen

(February 25th 2012)

Warning: contains a lot of violence. Really.
Entertainment is changing forever. Comedies, dramas, and reality TV shows are out. Murder is in.

In a world where murder is being exploited on TV, viewers watch live assassinations for their own entertainment. A hit game show where the challenge is to kill arises, stirring up remarkable popularity. Millions of viewers all across the globe watch it, vicariously experiencing the thrill of murder without ever committing the crime. And they all love it. Murder is the world’s latest and most remarkable excitement turned entertainment. But what happens when it goes too far?

"The following is not for the faint-hearted", I read at the beginning of this story. I thought "yeah, okay. Another author who thinks he is so scary and his story will be so amazing that I will faint... Nope, I'm strong.) and then I couldn't sleep, because I was scared someone was going to murder me. I felt like in Primary school, when I watched first horror movies with friends and we were scared to go to bathroom alone.

It starts... Normally. Man is murdering a woman, okay. Nice descriptions, I have to say, but author does horrible thing - he repeats himself all the time. On one ebook page I could read the same thing three times.
Characters in this story weren't really deep and that's what bothered me the most - but it's just a short story. If it would be longer, that kind of thing would make my rating lower, now I can't complain.
And... Yes, it was too short.

Anyway - this story made me sure that I'm right with my opinion about people - that they are sad creatures, caring only about their own butts. If you are not one of the lazy-butted people, read it and think - is there a winner in The Perfect Game?

PS: There will be sequel. Oh my.
PS2: Author is a teen. He's going to be famous, so you know...
PS3: It's going to my best-2012 shelf. Second book there.

Omfg, I got 58 followers. I'm crying right over here ;_; (I'm too emotional. Sorry...)
I would do a giveaway but I'm just a poor student so I can't... *sad look*
I have one shirt review in queue so I think I will post it tomorrow. Then, wait for one longer one, maybe a little more. Hard book to read and my review won't be higher than 2 stars... I'm not saying which book by the way. You can guess from my Goodreads.

I added following by email gadget by the way, so if you prefer this one to GFC - see right sidebar! (I'm not sure if it's working by the way....)

I love you all, remember. How was your Easter by the way?

  1. Not my cup of tea, I think, but I'm glad you were sufficiently 'scared'!

  2. With the popularity of reality TV, the concept of this story isn't too far of a stretch. Plus we have Ancient Rome as another example of a society riveted by watching murder as entertainment. All the same, this book isn't my cup of tea.
