(2011)
Brooke Keller is a high school junior who has never spent much time living in one place. She is finally in a town long enough to almost snag the boy of her dreams, until her life is threatened after killing a fanged man in his attempt to kidnap her. Brooke begins a dangerous journey in an effort to find out who is after her and how to stop them. In a world with powerful and prejudiced vampires, Brooke must tap into the side of her that she never knew existed at the risk of losing her life in order to save it.
I grabbed this book for free on Amazon and I was really excited about it! It was on my TBR list for some time and I didn't want to write to author for review copy because I was scared she would deny me. Really.
I liked how the story started. It kept pushing me to red next pages. Author describes everything, so we even know what kind of trees did character see - it's not very common in YA books, so you may think it's not necessary, but it's nice to read.
Maybe people from USA didn't realise, but it feels really American. All scenes at school were interesting for me, because it felt so... Different from here. Thanks for that interesting stuff! :)
I loved how paranormal stuff was described and making vampires Croatian was Hilarius! These all words are similar to polish, so I felt so familiar. This book had one of the best vampires in all books I've ever read.. Big plus for it, because most vampire novels has really horrible vampires (weird, huh? Yes, I meant Twilight and fairy-sparkling Edward...)
Fight scenes are amazing also! Not just "I attacked and killed" but nicely written and described.
Romance is good made, but I'm team Mirko for sure! Jaren is so... Typical. Handsome, nice, romantic, in sports team... Boring! And he's an idiot - changing his mind all the time and then being sorry for that. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR WORDS, my brain was screaming though all book. He reminded me of kind of people who hate someone because they confessed they are gay - it's not their choice and they have always been this way, so why hating after getting to know?
One this that really bothered me was that author used "European accent" somewhere. It pissed me of, because, like, Europe is full of different languages - so, I know she meant Croatian but it could be ass well Swedish, German, French or Spanish. Pretty big difference, huh?
And ending. I thought it was going to be okay, everything was explained, lovely and I started to be disappointed by that and then... Big boom. I don't want to spoiler, but, it was big shock. Now I NEED to read second book!
My rate is 4 STARS, because it was good. Nicely written, good idea and nicely developed, but... I don't know why, I wouldn't add it to my favourites. I was missing something but I'm not sure what - or I'm too picky.
If you have chance to read it, do it! :)

This sounds like a great find - I'm completely intrigued. I'm a vampire lover to - I like it when they put good twists on the traditional vampire story.
