THANK YOU!
Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough—especially as Calder has lots of practice using his irresistable good looks and charm on ususpecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily—just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him.
At first, I’d like to
write a little about the cover. Isn’t it beautiful? But I have to do one thing
that almost every blogger already did – ask why mermaid? I have never seen a
cover with merman and it would be something fresh and attractive.
Calder was the most
annoying character ever. He was almost always under his sisters’ orders (I’d
say he was acting like a lady, but at the end he started acting like a man.
Finally.), had horrible plans which almost made me scream “YOU’RE AN IDIOT,
STOP”. Plus stalkers aren’t really nice, right? But the thing that annoyed me
the most was that liked him in some
weird way.
Lily liked him even a
little more… Why? She seemed really bizarre and naive. Their “love” happened
like… I don’t know when. It just did.
Those all things are compensated
by an amazing story, how it’s told and developed. At first it seems simple and
boring. Ending was really surprising though and it made this book okay!
Another big
plus is a lot of poetry. Lily or Calder quoted a lot of it and it was very
beautiful. I’m a big lover of poetry, so
if you are one too, read it!
To sum up,
it’s a nice fast-read for lovers of mermaid stories. But beware… Mermaid (and
one hot merman ;) ) in “Lies Beneath” are not sweet and loving. There are a lot
of lies in the water…
PS: HOW AMAZING BOOK TRAILER IS IT? I'M DYING FHSDHJKDS
TRAILER GETS 5+ TOTALLY. I'M IN LOVE
What do YOU think?

Hmm, sounds like one I'll skip because I so don't like stories about killers. I picked up Of Poseidon by Anna Banks at the launch last night and I know it's going to be great. I had the privilege of critiquing the 1st 6 chapters before she got her agent and a publisher snapped her up like bait on a hook. New follower from Book Blogs.
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting book. I love the blog. New follower from Book Blogs. You can check out my site here http://lorimariaparker.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteGreat review, D! I'm not a huge fan of mermaid books but this does sound very different!
ReplyDeleteI want to read this book so bad!!! :) :) I'm jealous you got to read it!
ReplyDeleteI really loved this book because Calder was so complicated and not easy to like, really.

I must admit, I am yet to pick up a mermaid book.... This just might be my first! Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to read it.
ReplyDeleteThis really reminds me of Of Poseidon by Anna Banks. Calder kinda reminds me of Galen (well the hot merman part!).
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds interesting and really love the book trailer. I will be adding this one to my wish list.
ReplyDeleteblessed be
Leigh Savage
Good review, it gave me enough info to add this title to my list of "to read." I enjoy a novel with fantasy/horror elements--that is different too. And why not a merman on the cover?
ReplyDeleteHmmm! I can definitely hear the confusion you mentioned in there. I knew they weren't the normal nice ones and that the sisters were kind of bad, from other reviews, which does have me kind of intrigued.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a bit mind twisting too, with the fact that we can like him even based on everything you mentoned! It seems weird the love between him and Lily just happened though--I'm not a huge fan of that. You've definitely intrigued me with the ending though and I'm glad it made up for a lot!
I have it to-read, so I'm definitely curious to see what I'll end up thinking o: Great review!
OH! And thanks for linking the video! Seriously awesome o: And creepy looking... Lol!
