[37] STARRING ME by Krista McGee REVIEW

Starring Me by
Kara McKormick is told she's auditioning to star in a new teen variety show. But it's what she isn't told that could change her life.
The feisty New Yorker moves to sunny Orlando to participate in a month-long audition, where she'll live with nine other contestants and an eccentric housemother. Kara knows that the show already has a big-time celebrity lined up for the co-host, but she doesn't know who it is.
Chad Beacon quickly rose to fame after winning America's Next Star, but he doesn't want his entire career to be about singing. There is so much more he wants to do-like act. The new variety show sounds like the perfect next step for him, but his parents want him to have a co-star who shares his faith since they'll be spending so much time together.
Acting is high on Kara's priority list. But a relationship with God? Not so much. In fact, she's tried to stay away from anything religious. But God is after Kara's heart and He's put people in her life who are showing her there's far more to Christianity than rules and judgment.
And just when it seems that Kara's going to have to give up her acting dream, God reveals that she may have a starring role after all-in a story so big only He could write it.

Big thank you goes to the publisher for providing me a review copy though Netgalley :)

MY REVIEW
4/5 STARS

I will be honest right now – I grabbed this book from Netgalley by accident.  Do I regret it? No. Really.

I should have started with telling I’m Christian by myself, but I’m not really a strict one. I don’t care too much about religion. I didn’t expect myself to like religious fiction actually – books like that seem to be boring and kind of plastic to me – unreal. Something good happens – God wanted it to be like this. Something bad happened – God wanted it to be like that too.

Starring me is connected with First date book, it’s a little like a sequel. I haven’t read any other book by this author but it was still okay with me – I think it’s not required to read First date to understand Starring me.

We a have handsome boy, a singer (one of those teen stars who are popular because they are popular). He is perfect of course, as perfect as a person could be. I labeled him BORING and UNNATURAL at start. He’s going to have his own show but needs another new “star”. And here starts the fun. His parents let him play only with a Christian girl – because only a Christian girl can be good for his son, right?

It seemed like one big parody of Christianity at the beginning. It bothered me so much that I was about to delete this e-book and give up on reviewing. All was about convincing Kara that Christianity is the only good choice. Pretty bothering. But I continued reading… And oh, Narnia opened to me.

Author has amazing writing style and she makes the story intriguing even if the ending is really predictable. Last pages were so amazing and when it ended… I wanted more.

To sum up, it has some disadvantages like annoying, unnatural characters but… It still has this SOMETHING I look for in books. Looks like I shouldn’t have judged the book by its first pages… So I recommend it to young adults, Christians or not. It doesn’t matter. This book is simply good!

I'm sorry I'm not posting often. I have my own life and my own problems.
My boyfriend broke up with me today so I'm pretty... Blue.
We've been together for long time, so I guess you can understand it.
I'll try to write more. Really.

So, what do you think about this book?
Is it something you'd normally pick up?
Do you read that kind of books?

I appreciate every comment :)

  1. Why have I never checked out your blog!? You always comment on mine, but I've never even been to yours... I suck. You have some awesome stuff on here :)

Anyways, great review! But, I kind of think this book isn't for me. I don't think I can make it through the book if the beginning is preachy about religion and it seems like everyone is trying to convince the MC that Christianity is the only way to go, even if it gets better later on. Glad you enjoyed it, though :)
